A Short Bio For a Not-So-Short Last Name
Yes, that last name is 16 letters, 8 syllables and quite the tongue twister!
If you'd like, you can call her Steffi D, a nickname she acquired during her run on the 4th Season of Canadian Idol in 2006, where she finished as the Top 5 finalist. During her time on the show, she worked and performed with stars such as Cindy Lauper, Dennis DeYoung, Roger Hodgson, Martina McBride, Chantal Kreviazuk and Nelly Furtado.
For the past two years of her life, she toured with the Tony Award winning Broadway rock musical Spring Awakening, in the principal role of the troubled and bohemian hearted Ilse. After travelling to 44 different cities and doing 618 performances, she is currently living in Toronto and looking forward to achieving new and exciting goals.
Her heart being set on musical theatre and a career on Broadway, she started training as an actor and singer at the age of 9. As an actor, she performed in her hometown (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) in several plays such as The Miracle Worker (as Helen Keller), Angel Vicarious, Angel Square, Spoon River Anthology, Grand-peur et misère du IIIe Reich... During her teen years attending a performing arts high school, she was surprisingly cast as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables. (Sideburns, muscle suit and all!)
She has also been seen on the small screen, in commercials (most recently for McDonald's) and in interviews for television, radio and printed articles all across the United States. She also played Audrey in a French Canadian Television Series called Moitié Moitié, that ran for 4 seasons for which she also recorded the theme song.
Thanks to a dear friend, she found a new skill in puppeteering and has performed musical puppet shows at different events and fundraisers, establishing Puppets and People Productions. They performed a puppet show entitled Steffi's Picnic at various events around Ottawa and at the International Festival of Puppetry.
Throughout her teenaged years, she participated in several competitions in different categories such as musical theatre and speech arts, bringing home numerous trophies and scholarships, as well as winning the speech arts category for 2 years in a row at the provincial level.
In 2006, Steffi received first prize in a provincial young playwright contest of the French theatres of Ontario for her play entitled Un Compte de Fee. A professional reading of her play occurred on April 30, 2007, in Toronto at the Berkeley Theatre.
She completed a year of intense training at the George Brown Theatre School in Toronto before heading on the road with Spring Awakening.
